Maneki Neko continued...

My love for them has not faltered. At Hope Gangloff's show, I spotted a Maneki Neko in one of her paintings. I squealed, really, I did. Galleries must love me. The second one is from a sushi restaurant I frequent. Enjoy.

Maneki Neko continued...

More Maneki Neko spotted! The first at a Dim Sum House in Flushing, Queens and the second in the window of a martial arts center in the Ditmars section of Astoria. This one had a moving arm (will remember to take a video the next time I see another one of these)!

Maneki Neko

Or more commonly referred to (by me) as "Knock Knock Cats." Some of them have arms that move up and down and to me they look more like they are knocking rather than waving. Originally from Japan, they are known by many names, have many forms and are thought to bring good luck. I do not know what it is about them, but I just really LIKE them.

They have a friendly and inviting expression. They are cute without being kitschy. And they are everywhere. I think documenting "Knock Knock Cats" is an interesting project, and you will see documentation of them from time to time here.
